Size of finished butterfly 3.5cm x 3cm (1 1/4" x 1 1/8")

Materials you will need for the gold and/or silver butterfly (silver in brackets):

• Pelmet Vilene for butterfly and calico/cotton backing
• Yellow felt (white felt)
• Gold coloured paper covered wire (Silver Colour Metal Purl Wire 1.2mm)
• Gilt No.1 Pearl Purl (Silver Colour Metal Purl Wire 1.2mm)
• Gold Coloured Smooth Purl and Gold Coloured Rough Purl (Silver Colour Smooth Purl, White Silver Rough Purl)
• Gilt Spangles – 5mm, 4mm, 3mm & 2mm (Silver Plated Spangles 4mm, 3mm, 2mm)
• Gold Coloured Japan Thread No.1 (Silver Colour Japan Thread No.1)
• Sewing thread in yellow colour to match gold (grey/white to match silver)

 Equipment

• • Needles – Embroidery No. 10 & 9
  • Beeswax
  • Embroidery frame to fit fabric (ring frame or stretcher bars- 4”/10cm)
  • Embroidery scissors and an extra pair for cutting the metals (these can blunt the blades so having a pair just for this is handy)

  • Permanent black pen or design transfer pen of your choice
  • White craft glue and brush (or fingers!)
